yes they are both turtles
Alligator snapping turtles are larger and have much stronger bites. Alligator snapping turtle also live longer than common snapping turtles. Alligator snapping turtles can live to be 100 at the longest while the common snapping turtle lives to be around 70 at the maximum. Alligator snapping turtles have smaller shells and bigger heads. Common snapping turtles have the oppisite.
It sounds like a red eared slider
If it has a long head it's a guru and if it smells like beef it's a snapping
The red eared slider have yellow stripes - see related link to Wikipedia for more info Also, yellow bellied sliders, chicken turtle, map turtle, some musk and mud turtles, painted turtles all have some degree of yellow stripes on shell or head and neck area. Also, the box turtle species, mainly terrestrial, have yellow markings as well.
this type of turtle is called a soft back turtle. it is about 3 to 5 inches long including tale and is usually kept as a pet. O.k that other person up there is wrong..This is a red bellied turtle.Or a mix of a red bellied turtle and a red eared slider..So there is the correct answer :D
Here's a description of a snapping turtle: large head, long thick neck and back of shell has sawtooth edge. The height of the head end is a lot bigger than the tail end. by the way you have described it it sounds as if it is a yellow bellied slider, if it has to red marks on the sides of its cheeks/head it will be a red eared slider.
