We are promised that if we live faithfully but don't have the opportunity to be sealed in this life, we have the opportunity after death.

If a couple was married in a church and has kids already and wants to convert and be with each other forever, they they go to the temple and get sealed. So, in other words, if a family that is sealed together comes across hard times and say for example, the mother dies, the family has the reassurance that they are sealed together and they will see her again after they die.
