on average solar eclipses have every 18 months, last one was this years eclipse in Asia the next is due January 2010, showing its not always once every 18 months, but any one place on average it happens every 370 years, so if it happens in your home town it will most likely be the only time in your life, so enjoy it.
A Partial Solar Eclipse will happen most often because it is more likely for part of the sun to be covered up by the moon than the whole moon covering the entire sun. Also you don't really hear about Total Eclipses do you ? Hope I Helped -David

Partial solar eclipses happen more frequently, but the exact frequency can vary depending on the specific region. We would have what is called a "Total Solar Eclipse." The Most recent Total Solar Eclipse happened in 1487. The Next Total Solar Eclipse will happen in 2079. An interval of approx. 601 years. But for lack of better explanation, we would have a solar eclipse that we get annually.
