That depends. Active duty military are subject to the same rules on purchase of firearms- from a gun show or a dealer's shop- as any other private person- with one exception. An active duty member of the military may be considered to have more than one state of residence, which is important when purchasing a handgun. If you live in Virginia, you may only purchase a handgun in VA. However, if you are permanently assigned to Ft Benning, GA, you MAY purchase handgun from a Georgia dealer or gunshow- OR from an Alabama Dealer or show- since PART of Ft. Benning is in Alabama.
