In real life, at this time, no aliens are known and proven to exist. But if they do, and they are coming here, they must have some way to communicate. Hard to build starships, or even a society, with no ability to communicate!

From everything I have ever seen or read about (unproven) encounters with aliens, they do talk but not like us. It seems to be telepathically. This also gives the idea they are most likely more evolved than we are. The way people describe aliens physical appearance they have very small mouths and no sign of teeth. With such small mouths it stands to reason that they don't use them much for communication.

.

Answer:

This would be a thought experiment. If we consider what would happen if there were aliens then, logically, these aliens (from other planets, not from other countries) might have a level of civilization able to build spacecraft and send them off to other planets. Then they would be able to communicate. However, whether another species would talk (use modulated sound to communicate thoughts like we do) or some other method is open for speculation.

On Earth we have a significant amount of communication that goes on with dots and dashes in Morse Code, hand gestures in sign language, facial expressions, pheromones etc. Aliens could use finger (or claw) snapping, skin pattern shifting, dancing, toe tapping, built in radio or any other number of methods to get ideas across.
