According to Home Depot you will need to have it made at Mitsubishi. I tried to get my 02 Galant key duplicated there and was told that they could make a key but it would only open locks because of the computer chip. According to Mitsubishi it will cost a couple of hundred (maybe more) to get it replaced because of the chip and having to program it or something like that. I was definitely pissed as I did not ask for a second key to be made upon me purchasing the car used. I have only one key and need to find a way to come up with that extra money for a second key.
Consult an actual locksmithHome Depot is not an expert on locks by any stretch of the imagination. Check your yellow pages under locksmiths and pick out one of the larger locksmith ads, because they are the ones sitting on the transponder keys. Get it done before you lose the last key or it WILL cost hundreds. Also ask them for the key code and transponder code for safe keeping. A few models only have one frequency and you reset it in the ignition, but others have many (GM has 15 for example). If their price seems high, do check with the local mitz dealer, but on average the local locksmith has MUCH lower overhead than any dealer.make sure the gapping on the plug is correct to what the vehicle needs
