I'm not sure how it is in other parts of the country but around here(Lancaster)one must be born Amish to be Amish. Although some groups are a lot more strict than others. If a young person leaves the amish, they r not allowed to sit at the same table to eat, such as at a wedding, etc.
No, not anyone can become Amish and live in an Amish society. The Amish are a closely knit religious and cultural community that values their traditional way of life. They typically only accept individuals who have been born into the Amish faith or who have married into it.
You would have to live with them for a while first as a trial
explain why the Amish are considered by sociologists as a subculture and not as a counterculture.
Love is sacrificial, love is love. If you truly love him, you will do the best for him. Do you want to marry? That's what people in love usually should do. Respect his religion and do not get him in trouble. If you want to marry him maybe you should turn Amish too. You cannot become Amish. He would have to leave the Amish community and live in the "English" community. Being Amish is not like being a Catholic who then joins the Jewish faith of their beloved.
no, but they live similarly to the amish
The Amish are different from us because they live simply while we don't live simply.
Amish = religous sect who live a simple life. AMish = AM-ish = sometime in the morning compared to PM-ish (afternoon).
It is has become too easy for society to live in their personal bubble only concerning their next little thing, and though we may all inherently have compassion it has become to much of a chore to exercise it, we have become too lazy
The Amish live in many states, such as Towns in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. These are the main States they probably live in many US states.
Yes if you go to one of the Amish bed and breakfast, Amish try profit from people interested in experiencing, second hand their Amish Society. My half sister went to a Amish bed and breakfast, for her honeymoon with her present ex husband now, they said it was a good place to get away from hassle of life but their interaction with Amish was limited. You can look for Amish bed and breakfast, like you do any other as they or some else advertise for them, I suggest using Internet to look up ones in your area. If your looking just to hang around a community for a week, it is not going to happen unless your serious in joining, even then they are not going to let you just drop in and hang around for week, as they are a private people that limit their interaction with outside society.
Ohio i think
About 1500.
