Bozho (hello)
Sorry to hear about your injury and I hope that you are doing well!
Workmans comp claims are hard to win NO matter what race it happens to, it all depends on the government representative that you get, their are good Indians and bad Indians just like all races, any race can deny your claim. You will need good legal advice about workmans comp so I would go and search ask lawyers question for free sites, they do exist. I would probably leave race out of the question because it only smoke screens your real problem. You want the focus on the event and injury, not race.
Each state has its own WC laws, and each state is a little different. Basically the laws are that if you are injured in the course and scope of your work, Workers Compensation insurance will pay for your medical treatment costs (Doctor, drugs, transportation costs) If you are unable to work, after a waiting period (typically 7 days) Workers Comp will replace a PART of your wages you usually earned. It is not required that you file a lawsuit against anyone. You must report the injury to your supervisor at once, and file an Employers First Report of Injury. SOME occupational diseases are also covered by Workers Comp.
He/she is good if there's no charge for the lawyer getting what the WC agency has to provide you anyhow by law, or what the employer must provide by law. He/she is good if he/she ignores the employer's negligence (no suit is possible) and carefully looks for whether there is third party negligence from anyone with deep pockets.
Anyone who works for wages in the USA ...or other compensation, such as a volunteer working for goodwill for his fellow man, or to see a concert for free, or a worker who works to have "free" room and board, or who works for a US employer anywhere else in the world (Foreign Work Comp.)

Legal firms will assist anyone with a problem. Payment is routine compensation for services rendered.
I assume you're talking California State Compensation Insurance Fund. I believe you'll find State Fund will pay any physician willing to accept reimbursement at Fee Schedule as set by California. Unfortunately, that is likely well below what anyone else pays them, Work Comp or otherwise. Your best bet may be an independent Occupational Medicine practice, failing that, a national chain of Occ Med facilities.
