Preperation;
Know your application form/resume/CV.
Many applicants put things in these and when questioned on them have no idea what they are being asked.
Read and take in the roles are responsibilities that the job will require. These are what you are measured against. Have examples of situations you have been in previously which can show the interviewer your skill in that area, if you dont have a skill i.e. not done something the R&R requires think about if youve been involved with some who had to do this had how youve supported them in achieving this task.
Have a range of answers for each of the questions youvve been asked in applications forms, and the job description
Lear a little about the business your applying to. Get some up to date facts. This shows that youve considered WHY you want to join that company and also allows you to be able to give a very positive reason when asked why youve applied.
NEVER critisise the company your applying for if you find an issue in their development - No one likes that. In addition never critisise past employers. The one interviewing you may have contacts there and know more than you about that company.
Have some questions about the company that are interesting ones to ask... Dont ask about the sickness pay. Do ask about what type of development does the company offer if you are seen by them as a "positive employee".
It's good to sell yourself. However, putting in to the application and the interview things you dont do, or have never done but claim you do will get you a very quick reject letter. Classic are hobbies - I enjoy reading. Then asked what book types do you like, then they may ask about favorite writers. Interviewees will fall over on a simple question like this and lead the interviewer to believe there is an issue with honesty.
Dress in a business manner. Some companies have a dress code which is classed as informal. It still shows the interviewer that efforts have been made.
Males should be groomed, a good antiperspirant, light aftershave, clean hands and nails plus clean clothes and shoes still work.
Females the same - be aware of the clothes as well as those worn on a night out are frequently NOT whats worn in business.
Know where the interview venue is and be ther a little early - late is NOT good.
Never, drink any alchohol before an interview especially if youve arrived vastly early and need to rest up a while. An interviewer can smell it miles off. The same as smoking. Be aware if the company as a no smoking policy. If youve just put out a cigerette you will smell if it inan interview room.
If more than one interviewer is asking questions, respond to that person and the person who leads the interview eye movement back an forth to each shows a level of confidence.
LISTEN to what your asked and always apologise and ask for clarity if you dont understand something.
Know your work history. If youve left a company because it wasnt a nice place DONT say that provide a viable reason, i.e. opportunities came to improve employment.
if youve had a considerable amount of jobs i.e. You live and work in a tourest area, explain that, else it could look like you job hop. Good interviewers will have an idea that the area oyour from may have high employment at seasonal time and low at others therfore jobs may only be temperary. Furthermore, if you lave a job at the end of the season because the job ends. You NOT sacked. You are either laid off due to the work ending or contracts has finished. Sometimes seeing a person who has mny jobs in a high unemployment area tells then interviewer your making an effort to stay employed even if you have to take short term contracts.
