According to Scripture, baptism is an adult decision which no other can make for the individual. The idea of infant baptism is a tradition of men.

Acts 2:38-39New International Version (NIV)

38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call."

To 'repent' is a heartfelt, deep sorrow for the ways of the individual who has now yearned to change or do an 180* turnaround. To be able to achieve this turnaround, one needs to be fully in charge of their lives - an adult - and choose for themselves to be baptized.

Who runs believer's baptism?

The acceptance of a profession of faith and baptism in a church is usually done by vote of the congregation present at the time. I was 7 years old when I professed my acceptance of Jesus as my personal Savior and the church chose to put me into watch-care until I demonstrated that I was making an informed decision and not just following the leader.

Do you need god parents?

God parents are appointed by your parents at the time of your baptism (christening), if this is done when you are a baby or young child. They promise to take an interest in your moral and religious upbringing. Sometimes there is an understanding that they will take care of you if your parents fall ill or die. If you are baptised as an adult, you do not need god parents because you make the promises in the ceremony yourself. If you are not baptised, you don't need them at all!
