You should not keep a betta with goldfish as their needs are different. Bettas are a tropical fish and do much better in water temperatures that are 78F to 80F, while that is too warm for a constant temperature in a goldfish tank
Goldfish produce large amounts of ammonia and are coldwater fish so I would recommend that you do not place together.

NO Bettas' and Goldfish have different ideal temperatures AND most importantly the Betta needs very calm waters and the goldfish due to is high waste production needs allot of extra flow in the tank, even more so than nearly any other fish except river dwellers. This makes this combination completely inadvisable.

If that isn't bad enough, the Bettas' can be highly aggressive and any aggressiveness can stress out the goldfish which can lead to an increased risk of disease.

Bettas are tropical aka 26 degrees C is ideal

Goldfish are cold water 22 degrees is ideal and no more than 23 is recommended for long term

Bettas' NEED calm waters to properly breathe and relax

Goldfish NEED EXTRA filtration and water movement to clear out the large amounts of waste they produce daily

Bettas' are ALL too aggressive and will stress the goldfish out which suppresses the immune system and allows an increased risk for developing disease that can be fatal

Some of the information below is good advice but the bit about temperature is iffy. The bit about aggression is iffy too since each individual Betta is different BUT all Betta that i have observed want to develop and protect a territory if possible and the goldfish aren't territorial at all so there will be a great potential for conflict

Male fighting fish are only aggressive to fish of their own size that have long flowing fins and tails as they will be mistaken for another male fighting fish.

Fighting fish can go in with cold water goldfish in summer time as they prefer a room temperature tank. And then in winter they will have to be put in a warm water tank. It doesnt really matter what tank cold or tropical as long as the water they are in isn't freezing cold or overlly warm.

Male fighting fish are not as aggressive as people think. They cope really well with other fish just not other male fighting fish, fish of the same size with long flowing tails and fins, and they can not go with other fish that will prey on them. Such as angels, guppies and neons.

If you have any more questions just leave a message on board and I'll get back to you right away.

It is not entirely wise to put a Betta in a tank with goldfish, I probably wouldn't risk it, but it might be alright. You probably could put a Betta with Goldfish if you watch closely and make sure to keep your fish well fed, because a common reason for cannibal fish is that people forget to feed the fish so they try to eat their tank mates.

So all in all I would probably keep a Betta in a separate bowl with a mirror for company if possible.

NOOO!!!! never put a tropical fish in a tank with gold fish. especially bettas!. Males are very aggressive and may attack the goldfish. Females tend to be a bit more friendly but some gold fish are fin-nippers, and will rip at the fins of the bettas. Of course the betta will fight back, male OR female, and will probably kill the gold-fish.

When asking this question it is important to use common sense: a goldfish can grow over 12 inches long, bettas typically don't grow over 3 inches (even less for the females). Does it make sense to house these two fish together when one is 4 times longer (and WAY bigger) than the betta can ever be? In conclusion doing this would endanger the lives of both fish, so don't.

NEVER EVER PUT GOLDFISH IN THE SAME TANK WITH BETTAS bettas can be aggressive i had 2 gold fish and a 1 beta fish the beta fish killed the gold fish on the first day i got the gold fish.

It depends. If you get a goldfish that is the same size or larger than your betta fish, I would not recommend putting it in with your betta.

I have a 10 gallon fish tank with 3 fish in it. My 1 inch Shubunkin Goldfish, my betta fish and about a 2-3 inch goldfish.

My Shubunkin goldfish nipped the fins of the betta fish so he went into hiding. I rarely see him anymore. The smaller goldfish picks on him also. So like i said before, I would really not recommend it.

I always put one beta in my aquarium and I usually have one or two goldfish also. I have never had any problem with goldfish and betas getting along. Just saying. I have had an aquarium most of my life and I always put them together.

My suggestion would be put them together but make sure you only have ow beta. Then just keep a very close eye on them. If you see them being aggressive towards or another then remove the beta and put him I. His own tank with a plant in it. Just change his water periodically.

But like I said I have never had any problems with them getting along

Yes, but no. What I mean isIF the goldfish has long, flowing fins the male Betta will mistake it for another male Betta and attack it, but if it doesn't like a common goldfish or a Shubunkin goldfish than they should be fine. REMEMBER THAT GOLDFISH ARE NOT TROPICAL UNLIKE THE BETTA SO YOU COULDN'T EVEN IF YOU WANTED TO!!

Betta fish primarily cant live wioth other fish because the betta fish will kill the other fish. The only fish that a betta fish can live with is a non-colorful fish like tetras. Contact your petstore before you put another fish in with your betta fish.

no not really, goldfish have completely different habitat requirements to bettas, if you look up on the internet you will see that Bettas need a higher temperature to thrive. Furthermore whilst female bettas are supposed to be less aggressive they are still reasonably aggressive to other fish and so should be homed accordingly. Anyway a male betta in his own planted tank looks nice

You can house your betta fish with other fish. There are rules though:

For male bettas: they can only be housed with other PEACEFUL tropical fish with the same temperature requirements. No fin-nippers or goldfish please! you cannot house more than one male betta in the same tank.

For female bettas: they can be housed with other peaceful tropical fish with the same temperature requirements. no fin nippers or goldfish! also, you MAY house female bettas together, but the tank has to be at least 10 gallons and you have to have at least 4 together.

Hope that helped!!!
Absolutely not!Betta fish are tropical and to a gold fish with long fins probably aggresive.Goldfish are coldwater and much larger than betta fish which could put the betta at risk

I have a 50 gallon tank with 2 5 inch gold fish, 70 common guppies and a beta fish. They all hang out very well together so it really depends on the fish and size of tank. And no I do not have a heater on the tank and the temp stays around 70 degrees

It can, however, if a male, the Beta could attack the goldfish. Also, goldfish produce large amounts of ammonia and like cooler water. A Beta is pretty flexible as it is a labyrinth fish, just do water changes as needed.

First of all, remember that male bettas have to be alone, so if there are multiple, they have to be females. No, they should not be with goldfish, they are too aggressive.

Can you put one betta fish with one goldfish?

Betta fish are best as a solitary fish and are not compatible with goldfish.

What kind of Fish do not go with goldfish And betta fish?

Coldwater fish go with Goldfish (temperature under 70F). Tropical fish go with Bettas (temperature over 70F). Just make sure that you don't put any more than one Betta in a tank. So Bettas and tropicals don't go with Goldfish and vice versa.

Can you put a betta fish in the same fish bowl or tank as a goldfish?

No, betta fish are tropical fish; goldfish are coldwater fish, this should be reason enough not to mix the two. The mixing of these fish would be irresponsible and could yield distatorous results. One reason not to mix them would be because betta fish are quite small; most don't even reach 1/3 the size of a goldfish (even when full grown!) it makes them very likely to get bullied by the other fish. Fin nipping can be a major problem and is dangerous for the health of the fish. Do all your fish a favor by not mix betta fish with goldfish.

Can you mix betta fish with goldfish?

A betta prefers warm water, where gold fish like cold water, also male bettas prefer to be by themselves, also a betta prefers a shallow water where gold fish prefer a deep tank, gold fish need a filter and bettas do not.
