You can download the Express versions of some of the Microsoft C compilers or other Versions and install them on Vista. Not sure which one you need. Some that I use are: * Microsoft C# from Microsoft downloads, easiest to learn and use. * MiniQW C++ from: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=2435 You can Google lots of others. You may want to visit the GNU site for their versions. Installing should be straight-forward if you use a .msi file. These are usually among the options for downloading.

Finding out which Windows Vista service pack is installed is fairly simple. Go to Start, Control Panel, System Maintenance and then the System link. It should show which pack is installed.
Download Microsoft's Windows Vista Upgrade advisor tool. If there are any probolems with any of the software you have currently installed, the tool will tell you whether or not you will be able to run it in Vista. Please note this only works if you don't have vista installed already.
