As for medical science I would say yes.
Before the first humans had this procedure done, it was tested out on animals.
This to learn (and fail) before making the ultimate test on humans.
As for recognizing the procedure to be possible, I do not know of any vet or animal clinic that offer this procedure done.
The cost involved would probably be just too great.
