If you are using a wired controller you just plug it in. If you are using a wireless you turn on the controller then click the little button on the very top above the battery pack and the click the little button on the console beside the power button. If the controller has been connected to that console before just hold the center button on the controller. In some games you will have to be in the menu's in order to connect extra controllers.

There is a small round button with a thing that look's like the signal strength of a cell phone above it. Press and hold that till the center button lights start turning clockwise. Then Press the connect button on your xbox. It will then automatically connect the controller to that xbox. Repeat this process if you want to do this on another xbox
on the top of the controller there is a little button. press that while you press the button on the xbox that is kind of below the power button. there is like a rectangle under it. hold them strongly at the same time for about 5-7 seconds. then hold the xbox button on the controller(the silver/green button) for 2 seconds. it should work.

Right next to the "eject" button for the battery pack on the top of the controller you will see a small round button.
