Only if your head freezes, too. The best treatment for head lice:

1. Buy a commercial shampoo designed especially for that purpose. That's not so hard. There are several brands available at Walgreens and CVS. A double treatment runs around $15 - $25. Don't go with the cheapest one and don't be stingy in the application.

2. Apply the shampoo - as directed - to EVERYONE in the household.

3. COMB the hair (on every head) with a FINE toothed comb, under a bright light and magnifying glass. (really. Do this or the little critters will get away from you). As you comb, frequently dip the comb into a glass of alcohol and swish it around to clean it.

4. RINSE, RINSE, RINSE the hair.

5. Go back to the bright light and magnifier and check for any lice or nits that you might have missed. DO NOT GIVE UP until you are SURE the hair is clean.

Recent articles have said that it is not necessary to do the whole house extermination and throw away the bed clothes and couch, etc. They are called HEAD lice for a reason. Having just dealt with a severe infestation in a home where I did charity visits, I tend to agree with that. IF you get all the lice AND nits out of the hair and kill them in the alcohol, then immediately wash clothing that you and the lice carrier are wearing you should be just fine. Good Luck!

Perhaps. Most likely, though, they will die from being away from their food source (human blood). Head lice can only survive for about 1-2 days away from the scalp before dying. It's believed that they cannot reproduce after a few hours off the head.

lice live in all weather because they use humans as hosts. we are their lunch. The Center for Disease Control recommend heat in excess of 130F to kill both lice and eggs. the service called Head Lice Hero is the only head lice service companyin Westchester, NY and across the country that exceed that standard.

Lice can survive cold temperatures for a short time.

Putting hats and scarfs in a plasticbag and then in the freezer for the night will for sure kill them off.

Just don't put your children in the freezer. Other methods are required here. :-)

No. Only hot temperatures are going to kill lice, in addition to a parasite treatment (like a lice kit at your local grocer)

Does Clorox kill head lice?

You should never use Clorox on a person to kill head lice. If you are asking about laundering items and killing lice that may be attached to clothing, sheets, etc., the recommendation is to wash/dry them as hot as possible. Head lice are very sensitive to heat and will not be able to survive long periods in hot environments. Most recommendations are to achieve temperatures of 130F and above.

Can lice live in your leg hair?

Yes. Lice can live on pillows, blankets, Teddy bears lol, cloths, etc. To get rid of these lice problems, get to the source (your head) and after that is accomplish; wash your belongings (if some can) put in washer to hot water and extra hot air for drying time. Lice is very spread rapidly so if you have lice in your home and head, hurry and get them out! They can even be in sofa (like the eggs).

Why is it important to wash bed linen in hot soapy water when there has been an outbreak of head lice in a home?

Washing bed linens in hot soapy water following an outbreak of head lice is very important because of the fact that lice can live outside of hair for several days and eggs can remain viable for up to a month. These lice and eggs need to be killed in order to prevent a reinfestation. Hot soapy water is effective at killing them.

How do lice appear on bedding?

They are small, about the size of a sesame seed. They are not likely to live off of the head but they can. If you have head lice then you need to wash the bedding in hot water and dry the stuff on high for at least 30 minutes. You also need to vacuum the mattresses well. Then you are done! Do head lice die with heat?

If this is pertaining to your clothes and bedding then yes you will want to thoroughly wash EVERYTHING with hot hot water. I would recommend taking everything to the laundry mat because the water there is usually hotter than at home and use the highest heat setting on the dryers.
