No they don't.It would be too easy for an inmate to steal the gun from the officer and kill somebody. Instead they carry peper spray or~and tazers.

Each department sets its own regulations and policies for what its officers carry. Glocks are pretty common. I believe Glock holds about 60 percent of the police market.
