Best Answer

No. Coal, natural gas, and oil are examples of fossil fuels, as they are the products of organic material that was buried for millions of years. Alcohol is derived from corn, and considered a biofuel.

Can corn oil be used for diesel fuel?

Straight corn oil cannot be used directly as a fuel in any engines. It must first be refined in a similar way to the crude oil which comes from underground oil wells. One way is to use the corn oil as the raw material for the production of a fuel suitable for internal combustion engines: first ferment the corn oil and then distil the resulting "brew" to make ethanol. Ethanol is an alcohol that can be used directly as a fuel for gasoline engines and it can also be used as a good "fuel supplement" when mixed - in small amounts - with the normal diesel fuel that is used for diesel engines.

Food crops are more valuable as food in India than as a source of fuel. Corn, especially, is subsidized in the US to make it overly competitive against foreign sources of sucrose/glucose. That's why soda in the US has corn syrup instead of sugar, when the same soda in every other country in the world is made with cane or beet sugar.
