Normally having nails too long does not make a dog limp. You need to take your dog to see your Veterinarian to have him or her checked out. There may be something very wrong going on and only your Vet can tell. Also have your Vet show you how to properly clip your dog's nails.

No it should not usually. If you cut the nails too short they may tend to bleed but not usually swelling.

no. if you cut it too far then yes it will hurt Some dogs are very afraid of being hurt this way. If so, you can file the nails instead.

Yes, they will but call yours and ask to make sure. I had a dog once and wouldn't let me cut it's nails so I made an appointment and the vet assistant did it.

What do you do to keep a great dane's claws short?

The best way to keep a Great Dane's nails short is to take him/her to a dog groomer at least once a month. If you can't afford a dog groomer, you can purchase nail trimmers for dogs at a local department store or pet store. If you decide to trim his/her nails on your own, be careful not to cut them too short, and you should trim Great Dane nails at least once a month.

How short should I cut my dogs nails?

You should clip your dogs nails only a little bit at a time. There is something called a "quick" in dog's nails. If you cut into the quick then the nail will start to bleed and it will have hurt the dog, to a point to that they dog won't let you clip their nails anymore. If you clip the nails a little bit say once a week, the quick will start to recede, making it safer to clip your dogs nails without hurting them.

Why does my dog yelp when I'm cutting her back left paw?

It's important to remember that the nails on a dog have nerve endings if you cut too much off, just like how it would be painful if you cut too much of your own nails off.

How do you trim dog nails?

If you want to cut your dogs nails then: 1. file them 2. Use special nail cutters and cut just the very tip because just a few millimeters into the nail there is blood vessels. If you cut it that far the nail will bleed for about 3 days and it can get infected easy. That causes even more problems. If you are scared to cut the nails, just go to your vet and they can do it.

What can you use to make your dog shed less?

Cut its hair until it's short. But not too short that its body is pink, that's too short, and the hair is for a little protection. If your dog's hair gets cut too short, it'll get hurt easier.

What do you use to tranquilize your dog so that you can cut her nails?

Sounds like you have spoiled your pet and haven't let them know who is boss in your household. Most breeds of dogs do not like their nails cut. You should be firm with them, but since this has obviously been going on for sometime it's best to let your vet or groomer cut their nails. Like children, dogs will often act up with their owner, yet be quite placid when a vet or groomer deals with them.Never sedate your dog unless your vet gives approval. Nail clipping is not a good reason to sedate your pet!Sorry, but I was told by my VET that I needed to tranquilize my dog to cut her nails and get her groomed, and my dog is a pet and knows exactly who is boss. She is very nervous and her original owners abused her, so when it comes time to cut her nails she MUST be tranquilized. BTW, the VET refused to cut her nails because she was too nervous and told me to give her tranquilizers to get her groomed. And she is not spoiled, just saying.
