I'm sure you could rig something up with some serious work, but I'd suggest sticking with electrical. The electrical switch controls a motor that is attached directly to your transfer case. There's no linkage there to work with. The motor turns a shaft to shift between 2wd, 4wd hi, and 4wd low.
You may need to replace the 4x4 engager switch or replace the fuse in your fuse box.
you cannot repair the switch, you must replace and relearn.gmjim
The hazard button alone can't be replaced. You will need to replace the complete signal switch which is called a multifunction switch.
how do you replace3 dimmer switch 1987 chevy silverado 4 x 4
You can't. There are 2 many other electronic devices that run through the switch. You must replace the switch.
My Explorer did that and I had to take the dash panel out where you will find a black or green box right beside where the radio goes, you will have to replace it.
there is a 4x4 switch on the transfer case. i found it when my vehicle control center said to "service 4x4 switch"
Howdy, Pushbutton 4x4 use a electric motor to move the shifter fork in the transfer case to 4x4 and then into 4wd Lo range. This unit has a electric motor, a small gear box and a contact switch inside this little unit that is mounted to the transfer case. The contact switch is very light duty, and will either wear out or corrode from road salts, water, etc. I have had many apart and the only way to fix this problem is to change the complete unit (Around $175.00) as they are not repairable. I have had a few apart to see exactly the workings. What is happening is when your switch in in one position on the dash, the switch will make a contact in the contact switch on the motor telling the computer to turn on a light, which in turn makes to electric motor engage the transfer case into another position that you didn't call for, like 4x4 or 4x4 LO. Replace this motor assy or it will tear out your transfer case. E-mail with more questions. firstname.lastname@example.org

Your Switch migh be bad
First uf all, The computer has nothing to do with the 4x4 on this year truck. If your check engine light is on , Then there's a problem in the system wiyh the engine or transmission, Not the 4x4. You need to check the 4x4 Actuator on the front housing to see if it has power going to it when you ingauge the 4x4. Check it with a test light. If it lights up the test light, Then replace the actuator in the housing. If it don't. Then go to the top of the Transfur case and you will see a switch on it. Check it with a test light, With the 4x4 ingaged, if its hot there then replace that switch. Before you do anything check the 4x4 Fuse's in the fuse box with a test light.
There is a reset switch for the electric fuel pump located in the right front passenger footwell , behind ( or by ) the kick panel , just in front of the front door
There is no inertia switch on this vehicle.
How do you replace the front wheel bearings on a nissan frontier 4x4 1999
check that the lock that locks your front tyres into 4x4 still works and if your 4x4 is activated by switch get your electrics checked
Possibly bad transfer case. If a GM compact (T) truck, consider a bad 4x4 switch. If an Explorer you might have a bad contact plate, replace the encoder motor. Because your transfer case might be shot it could be the bearings..auto locking? get manuals, it costs 100 and u need to get out, but it won't fail you. if electronic 4x4 switch, you need a new switch if manuel linkages, adjust linkages
There is a switch on the transfur case that sends power to the front differential 4x4 Actuator when you shift the 4x4 lever, need to check the switch with a test light to see if it has power going to it. If not then check fuse in fuse box for the 4x4, If it does have power going to it, then go to the front housing and check the Actuator with a test light to see if it has power going to it, if no power then problem is in the wireing from there back to the transfur case switch. If you do have power at the front, then replace the Actuator.
You can check the 4x4 relay switch by gaining access to the fuse box. The fuse box on a 92 Explorer under the hood and then use the owners manual to locate the relay switch.
