Not really. The converse... each element contains one type of atom... isn't exactly true either, unless you're careful about what you mean by "type."

Elements are composed of one "type" of atom, where by "type" I mean "having a particular number of protons". They can have different numbers of neutrons and still be the same element, but if the number of protons changes, it's a different element.

An element by classification is a substance which is made up of only one kind of atom. So, yes. Confusion may arise when it comes to elements that exist as molecules, which are bonded atoms, example hydrogen (H-H) and chlorine (Cl-Cl). It's still only one kind, but the element exists naturally as bonded and not single atoms. Once there is more than one kind of atom in a substance, it's no longer an element, but a compound, example hydrogen chloride HCl

This may be a matter of how the word atom is defined. Most elements have isotopes which have different numbers of neutrons in an otherwise identical atom. So, if isotopes are different types of atoms then elements can have more than one type of atom. If isotopes are not different types of atoms then elements can only have one type of atom.
