Probably a bad rod bearing
NO it will not. If you have a knocking sound then you have trouble inside of the engine.
A bad knock sensor would illuminate the check engine light and allow the engine to ping (spark knock). The engine doesn't shift, the transmission shifts.
Yes it can hurt your engine to drive with a bad knock sensor. The knock sensor should be replaced as soon as possible.
NO, but it will cause bad engine performance
a knock sensor will retard or advance ignition spark, improving gas mileage and will not shorten engine life , if any thing it will extend engine life.
The knock sensor just advances and retards the engine timing only. If there is a noise in the engine then you have engine are valve train problems. The knock sensor will not make the engine knock.
The sensor is bad. A properly-functioning knock sensor allows the ECM to advance timing until it senses a knock. It then retards timing until the knock just barely goes away allowing for optimal gas mileage.
No, it will not cause the engine to knock.
The knock sensor retards the engine timing when there is a knock or ping detected. This will make the car a little sluggish. It is rare that the knock sensor goes bad.
the only sign is if it goes bad it should trigger the check engine light, you wont notice loss in peformance in engine. all it does is when there is a knock in a cylinder, from bad fuel, it leans back on fuel to stop the knock.
YES, It sure can but I don't think you would notice it that much. It would help us to know the year, engine size and what you are working on.
