You should be allowed to take any classes you'd like, as long as there is no conflict with your conditions of release. For example, if you were convicted of a sex offense I wouldn't recommend trying to take early childhood education classes.
The classes in college shouldn't be a problem, but be careful about what sort of field you are preparing yourself for. I'd definitely recommend talking to some people in authority to try and find out what your career prospects are on the other side of college.
If you prepare yourself for self employment you won't have to worry about getting turned down for a position due to background checks.
You should not limit yourself. In some programs of study (mostly health related professions) they will require a background check. They may will call you in for an explanation of the circumstances. Should this occur, be up front and truthful. It does not necessarily mean you would not be accepted. Most programs of study, require no background check. Find your passion; a love for what you want to do, and go for it. Once again, do not limit yourself. Everyone should have the opportunity to better their work/life situation.
Yes, they can. Criminal record is not a valid reason for denying entry, provided all other requirements are met. However, grants and loans may be jeopardised by some or all crimes committed.
