can i mix latex with enamel paint?
I'm going to try it because of the definitions below. found at http://www.ehow.com/about_5104253_latex-enamel-paint.htmlLatex is, simply put, rubber. Whether natural or man-made, latex is the term used to refer to it. Latex paint is paint made with rubber mixed in as the binding agent which, when dry, holds the paint together.
The term enamel when used to describe paint refers to any kind of paint that is hard and glossy once it has dried. The easiest way to think of this is to think of the enamel that's found on the outermost layer of human teeth.
When these two attributes are combined, latex enamel paint brings the best of both worlds to the home. The latex bonding in the paint means that paint will dry quicker, is easy to use, and lacks much of the odor associated with older styles of paint. The enamel quality means that the paint will be hard, able to be scrubbed clean and will boast a shiny gloss.
Yes you can with either an enamel (oil based) undercoat first or an acrylic (water based) undercoat first..... then apply your enamel topcoat. The only problem being, as time goes by, is that you acrylic base coat continues to flex with the warm and cooler temperatures around the year. Enamel paint after a few years starts to harden and the flexing of the acrylic paint beneath will make it crack.

Since latex paint is also water-based, you can apply it over a water-based enamel as long as that enamel is a flat, eggshell, or satin sheen. If the water-based enamel is gloss or semi-gloss, you risk the new paint peeling off. To remedy this problem, it's best to wash the existing paint with a liquid deglosser or deglossing cleaner such as T.S.P., or lightly sand the area with sandpaper to remove gloss, or apply a primer specifically approved to adhere to glossy surfaces, before painting.
nope
Answer: If they are both the same base, ie water to water or oil to oil, then yes, they can be boxed together.
Yes, enamel paint will go over flat paint.
"flat" paint is flat flat -- no sheen at all. My understanding is that "flat enamel" has a very slight sheen -- like about 6%, which supposedly makes it a little easier to clean than the flat flat paint. But, it's pretty hard to distinguish one from the other.

Any flat paint (even enamel) will provide plenty of tooth for acrylics. As long as the mural is not going in a high traffic area (where it will be touched often and eventually need cleaning) it should be fine.
An enamel paint is a paint that dries to an especially hard, usually glossy, finish. Enamel paints sometimes contain glass powder or tiny metal flake fragments instead of the color pigments found in standard oil-based paints. Enamel paint is sometimes mixed with varnish or urethane to increase shine as well as assist its hardening process.

Enamel paint is basically a type of oil based paint. It can be defined as a semi or high-gloss paint that levels out all by itself. You spread it evenly with a brush, and then the strokes vanish; it forms an enamel surface. It works superlatively on a distinctive primer that equalizes the surface.
A primers is basically used to seal a surface and give the top coat "tooth". A primer should be chosen for the surface it is going on, oil based primers adhere better to surfaces like bare wood, slick finishes, and old oil based paint. Once the primer has dried any kind or paint may be applied as a top coat.
Tremclad makes it in regular paint or spray. The spray is better, especially if sprayed over a flat white primer they also make.
Yes. Enamel means hard and many companies make a water based flat enamel.
