Can fleas be the cause of a clingy cat My cat is 7 years old now but I notice the fleas on her are really bad this summer. About a month ago she started to be really clingy. Can it be the fleas?

Definitely, the fleas could be the reason she's become clingy. You are the caretaker and she's probably looking to you for help and relief. Fleas can be torture to a cat (or any other animal). Do your best to get rid of those pests.
Years ago, we moved from a comparatively flea-less area to a flea-infested part of the country. Our long-haired cat woke me up because the fleas were bothering him so badly. So in the middle of the night, I gave him a bath with a flea shampoo and a flea dip. He was so relieved that he sat calmly through the procedure.
Not only do you need to get the fleas off your cat, you need to try to prevent re-infestation. There are many preparation and medicines for that purpose - like once-a-month pill or topical preparations. There are shampoos and dips and flea collars. Be careful when using chemical/medical controls that you follow instructions and check for interactions before using more than one chemical or medicine. Also talk to your vet about what would be best for your cat.
Use flea combs. Comb her several times a day to help get rid of the fleas. It is a non-chemical method and works very well.
You need to de-flea the house, too. Fleas on the cat are always laying eggs that drop off wherever she goes. Frequently vacuum the rugs, floors and furniture paying special attention to her favorite spots. Clean her bedding. If the house infestation is severe, there are pesticide products available that work on fleas. Follow directions carefully.
