Yes, hamsters can eat dried or fresh papaya. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber. However, since papaya is a tropical fruit, the hamster could get an upset stomach if you feed too much of it. Maybe one small piece every 2 days.
Hamsters should have a good mixed diet, including fresh fruit and vegetables (although not too much or they may get wet-tail).
They love things like broccoli, carrots, apples (but not apple-pips), banana, dandelion leaves, sweetcorn and cooked peas. They also love walnuts and hazelnuts.
Do NOT feed them lettuce, citrus fruits, pineapple, rhubarb, chocolate or almonds as all of these contain toxins that they cannot process.
They should also not be fed sweets as these can cause Diabetes and (if they pouch them) can gum up their pouches.
They also enjoy mealworms and can be fed small bits of cooked chicken, or cooked (not raw) egg.
Unlike many rodents they are fairly lactose tolerant and so can eat small amounts of cheese or yoghurt and be given a small quantity of milk once a week. However, milk will go off if left in their cage, so many owners do not feed it.
While most fruits and vegetables are good for hamsters, they generally should not be given pineapple or any citrus fruit. The acidity in them can harm their pouches.
