No. Great White Sharks only live in salty oceans. There is such a thing as freshwater sharks, but no sharks live in the Continental United States rivers, lakes, streams, etc.

Not in the fresh water, but in the area of brackish (fresh and ocean water mix) water there are possibly some Great White Sharks. It's unlikely that they would remain in that type of water, for long enough to be considered 'living there', though. There are historical records of at least one Great White Shark which swam up some rivers around New Jersey back in the 1920's, give or take a few years. It killed several people, injured some others and inspired the movie 'Jaws'.

I cannot possibly say yes there are sharks in the Illinois river. However, the Bull Shark is an aggressive predator that functions equally well in fresh or salt water. If the Illinois river has a connection to the ocean, then it is possible, albeit improbable, there are sharks in the Illinois river. Any fresh water connected to the ocean has the possibility of Bull Sharks being present. It is a rare occurrence, but does happen.

It's debatable. There was a string of shark attacks on the Jersey shore in 1916, in which three of the attacks occurred in a creek. The shark often linked to these attacks is the Great White Shark (though some scholars debate that it was a bull shark, simply because they have been known to live in freshwater).

There have been small great white sharks that have been caught in rivers in the past years, so it is possible, it's just not as often seen as a bull shark in fresh water.

Yes. Because of the bull shark's ability to live in a freshwater ecosystem, they can travel upstream to the Mississippi River. "Zambezi" sharks have been sighted as far up as Alton, Illinois, and fishers claim they have had bait stolen from the lines from these sharks.

Well that really depends. The bull shark is able to live in fresh water and salt water. If the river is fresh water, then only the bull shark can go there, but that would only be if the river led to an ocean because that's how the bull shark could get to the river. I hope this helps and please recommend me!

no because they are salt water fish so if they went there they would die.

Bull sharks (Carcharhinus leucas) do not hibernate in the Mississipi river, or elsewhere. They are active all year in rivers or in the oceans.
