Yes. Sadly! Some people are infectious a week before and after their outbreak. Some people also have 'viral shredding' where they are actively shedding the virus, without knowing and therefore spreading it to any partners.

Yes it can.

Answer

It can but it's more likely to spread around the time a break out occurs. While there are asboloutly no signs or symptoms there is only a small chance of passing it. It's even further reduced if the person with herpes is taking antiviral medication or suppressants regularly.

It's less likely to spread with out having any signs or symptoms of a break out but it's possible. If some one with herpes has intercourse just before or just after a break out heals then they could pass it on.

While genital herpes and oral herpes may be caused by the same virus, an infection around your mouth will not spread to your own genitals unless you move the virus with your fingers from the mouth to the genitals. The virus is normally spread by skin-to-skin contact, and stays local at the point of infection.

The rash from herpes virus is usually found in clusters. The exception is that an initial genital herpes outbreak may be spread across the genitals.

The initial outbreak of herpes is usually the most severe. A patient who has never had genital herpes or cold sores typically has the worst initial outbreak. A history of other herpes infections may make the initial outbreak less severe, as the body already has related antibodies. These patients may be more likely to have genital herpes without knowing it. As time goes on, outbreaks typically become less severe.
