Technically, yes. But if you do it, you will have some reconstructing to do. You'll need to strip the cut off side rail of veneer, remove the honeycomb cardboard core at the keeper cut edge, and glue in the stripped rail into its new position, clamping along its length. If you just need to take a little off lengthwise, you probably could take up to 1/2" safely off of each side without the above reconstruction technique.

How much can you trim off a 6 panel closet bifold hollow core door?

you can probably only cut off an inch before you hit the hollow part. If you need to cut it shorter, you can if you save the bottom piece and reuse the piece of wood in the bottom. Trim off the ends and the venier cover, glue it, and clamp in over night. You will also have to drill the pivot hole deeper.

How do you hang a door that doesent fit exsisting door jam?

Short answer, make it fit. Depends on how much it is off and where. If in width and less than an inch, hang it on the hinge side and scribe it to fit the lock side. If more than an inch, measure the opening and take equal amounts off of each side. This is for solid wood doors only. Hollow core or chip filled core only have an inch wide piece of wood on the edges and can only be cut down about 1/2 inch on the sides. If too tall, the bottom of a solid wood can be cut as much as 3 inches depending on how it is made. A hollow core or chip core has about a 3 inch solid wood on the ends and can be cut 1 1/2 on either end.
