None! You wouldn't hopefully give a family member or a friend a pain killer. Dogs and cats go by body weight so you need to see your vet to decide what pain killer to give your dog. If you find it too expensive have the vet give you the prescription and have it filled at your local drug store and tell the pharmacist it's for your dog and how much the dog weighs.

If you must give a dog temporary relief from pain prior to consulting with a veterinarian, you can give small amounts of aspirin with food. Again, the amount to give is determined by weight, so giving too much can be toxic. As a general rule, never give a dog acetaminophen (Tylenol).

My dog has Diabetes and Arthritis and for the Diabetes we are giving him Insulin, for the Arthritis our Vet prescribed him " Tramadol " , which is another name for ""Ultram" which is a narcotic-like pain reliever used to treat moderate to severe pain.

When I was diagnosed with Meningitis back in 1996 I was prescribed " Ultram" which was a joke, it was like giving me an aspirin because the pain was so severe. I am currently taking Morphine for my pain and have been fr the last 13 years.

However, the " Tramadol " seems to be helping my dog with his arthritis because he is able to walk better and even a bit faster. He cannot jump up on my bed, and hasn't been able to since around December...we were told about his Diabetes and Arthritis in September.

I am currently looking for a " Dog Ramp " so he can walk up the ramp and onto our bed. I was looking at "Dog Steps " but he can't walk up steps no matter how big or small the steps are, but still, his mobility is much better since he started taking the " Tramadol " AKA " Ultram " .

Unfortunately not. Human doses of pain medication will almost instantly overdose and most likely kill a small animal, such as a dog.

They can use creams, such as Sudocreme. But for medication, you will have to see a vet.

No, absolutely not.

Dogs and humans require different dosages, because our bodies and immune systems are absolutely nothing alike. You risk contracting a serious illness or even overdosing if you take medication designed for dogs. Dogs also risk the same if they take human medication.

Painkillers are available over the counter at a pharmacist without prescription. However of you require something stronger than those over the counter, you will have to see a doctor (a human doctor, not a vet, just so we're clear).

The average amount that OMRI techs make average about 68000 a year, which is almost 20 percent more than the national average . This is not bad considering today's economy, however.

Can you give Oxycontin to a large dog for pain?

No, narcotic pain medications made for humans are too strong for dogs. Your vet will give you some pain medicine for the dog which will be safe for it to take. Do not give your prescription medication to anyone else, including pets, because you do not know what sort of reaction someone else will have to it. Only a doctor can prescribe medicine. .

Can dogs take Tylenol for cold weather joint pain?

No; dogs are not small humans and do not react to human medications well. Over the counter pain medications for humans, like Tylenol, are actually toxic to dogs and can kill them even in small doses. If you suspect that your dog has arthritis (joint pain), you should take your dog to your veterinarian and he/she can prescribe a pain medication that is safe for your dog to take. You can also make it easier for your older dog to handle cold weather by providing warm blankets for him/her to lay on or providing heat to his/her resting place through the cold weather. Remember that dogs with long hair coats (German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, etc.) will tolerate the cold much better than humans while short-coated breeds (like Chihuahuas, Boston Terriers and Boxers) will be more like humans in their reaction to cold weather.

What human medicine can I give my dog for pain?

Nothing - if you try to give your dog human medication for pain you may very well end up killing him. If you think your dog is in pain and could use some pain medication, you should take him to the vet for an examination.Important notice:Most painkillers for humans contain substances that will cause the livers and kidneys of dogs and cats to fail, and ultimately a painful death. Do not give your pet ibuprofen, paracetamol, or any other common painkiller for humans!

Can a 57 lb Pit Bull female 11 yrs be given Excedrine for menstrual pain?

NO - you should NEVER give your dog medications that are meant for humans; dogs are not little humans and do not react to medications the same as humans. Over the counter pain medications (Excedrin, Tylenol, Aleve, Advil, etc.) are particularly harmful for dogs - one pill can cause a fatal stomach ulcer. In addition, dogs really don't get menstrual pain - they don't have menstrual cycles like humans where the lining of the uterus increases then is shed. If your dog appears to be having menstrual pain, you should take her to your veterinarian immediately - I would worry about uterine, ovarian or mammary cancer.

What happens it you take a pill on an empty stomach?
