The answer is no unfortunately. Only other Zoo Tycoon 2 games will work with any one Zoo Tycoon 2 game.
You will need Zoo Tycoon 2 to play any of the expansions.
but there is a good deal for a game with all the expansions including zoo tycoon 2 its called untimate collection zoo tycoon 2 better than buying them all.

yes it can run without it because it comes with it ---- At the bottom of Zoo Tycoon:Marine Mania and the bottom of the Zoo Tycoon:Extinct Animals, it will say "Requires Zoo Tycoon 2 to Play." I got Marine Mania, but it wouldn't install because it required Zoo Tycoon 2, the regular one with a monkey on it holding a banana. Once you've installed Zoo Tycoon 2 on your computer, you can then install the expansion pack Marine and Extinct. Have fun!
