To remove an icon from the system tray, click on Start. Then click on the Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization, and then Task Bar and Start Menu. Choose the Notification Area tab and uncheck all the boxes corresponding to the icons to be removed. Lastly, click Apply and then OK.

Here's how you do it :o) There should be an icon on the bottom right of the screen in the system tray which is a big colourful letter, which indicates the power mode you are in. It may be orange or green depending on the power mode. Right click on it and you can select the power mode to use from the menu.
