The pH on my pool is low and as I use baquacil what should I add to it?
You would be safest using Baquacil pH Increaser, which is a high purity, highly active dry alkaline product used to raise pool pH. In non-Baquacil pool water, both Soda Ash and Hydrochloric acid are used to raise pH levels. Pool shops are a good place to seek advice also.
Can you use baquacil with well water?
Not recommended, Baquacil is a swimming pool, hydrogen peroxide (Potassium) based chemical. Baqua Spa is the recommended (Potassium) based spa chemical.

I have been using Baquacil for 18 years in an in-ground pool. I used chlorine in an above ground pool prior. The cost difference is obvious. Starting off new, Baquacil is very expensive. As the years go on, the cost of the sanitizer drops dramatically because of the baquacil buildup in the water. You dont have the chlorine smell and the eye burning. I recommend washing the baquacil from your hair since the hair tends to get heavy after swimming. Foaming is also a problem with baquacil. I still prefer baquacil and intend to use it after I install a new liner next year.
Can you mix chlorine with baquacil?
Baquacil is completely imcompatible with Chlorine and usually the water will instantly turn green, you can use the Baquacil Chlorine Neutralizer to help disepate the CL out.

To get rid of algae in a Baquacil pool, the best thing to use is the Performance Algaecide. The algae will actually get worse if converting because you have to wait until the Baqua reading is at zero before converting which could take at least several days because the Oxidizer is designed to last for an entire month. How do you switch from Baquacil to chlorine without draining the pool?
If you read the directions from baquacil you will find that yes you can indeed change from baquacil to chlorine. It is extremely important that you use up all the baquacil product and eliminate it from your pool prior to adding the chlorine. I have successful changed over two different systems and chlorine is much less expensive.

Most sand and DE filters are cleaned with an acid solution by soaking overnight. Cartridges can use a spray on type and then blasting clean with water. Avoid using household detergents. Biguanide users (Baquacil, Revacil, Soft Swim) should use the product recommended by their manufacturer as it is specifically designed to break down the PHMB residue in the filter. Is chlorine or baquacil better?
We have used Baquacil for the past 15 years in our pool. There have been no real problems BUT it is horrible with Algae!!! I mean horrible! You will spend a ton of money on shock and other products to fight this problem. With chlorine, the shock is much cheaper and will kill that algae on the spot. We could not afford to open our pool for the past 2 years because the cost of Baquacil and/or its compeditor Splashes was too great. We have a 30,000 gallon inground pool and the chemicals were costing upwards of $600 a season and we STILL fought the algae. Scrubbing the sides of your pool everyday takes all the fun out of having it! Enzymes were helpful but also expensive.Both Chlorine and Baquacil have advantages and disadvantages. Chlorine is a much stronger santizer, therefore killing bacteria almost instantly. With that comes the possibility for skin and eye irritation, bleached hair and bathing suits, it can also bleach the liner and once the CL reading is that high it takes time for the sunlight to naturally bring it down where with Baquacil you can swim within 30 minutes of adding any product since they are all liquids and made with hydrogen peroxide.Baquacil is not the magic potion that everyone claims it is. You still need to balance your water, use shock and algeacides to keep organic contaminents in check. Baquacil is not compatible with a lot of other brands of chemicals, so be careful.I prefer chlorine.Chlorine and bromine are the only treament chemicals recognized as disinfectants. The alage that happen in Baquacil pool are due to lack of use and particulate buildup from the air on the bottom. So go ahead and walk around your pool as soon as you get back from any time away from home. You use a test strip once a week and add if needed. I find it to be much less expensive then chlorine since I only have to top off the Baquacil once every three weeks. What is the best way to get your pool ready for the summer after the water has turned green?
Answer Green water to clear waterStart out by putting your filter on recirculate, do not filter. By a bottle of drop-out or floc. Add algaecide 30% to kill algae growth in the water. Adjust chlorine level to 1.5-2.0 and pH level to 7.5-8.0 for best results. Add floc or drop-out as instructed on the bottle to the pool water. Recirculate for 2 hours, then shut off pump for 12 to 24 hours. Vacuum debris at bottom of pool to waste. Adjust pool water height and check and adjust chlorine and pH levels. Also add algaecide 10% to pool to kill algae. If possible, also check alkalinity, hardness, and calcium levels. It would not hurt to clean the sand in the filter if you had started filtering the water before treating the algae growth. Patches of dead algae will appear at the bottom of the pool even after using the floc as it will still be in the water for several days. It will not harm you. Just vacuum debris to waste. Do not over treat the pool as this will cause cloudy water and delay its use.
