Absolutely. within reason. If a hike is planned over potentially dangerous ground that would be harder for them to walk or climb over it's probably not a good idea but it the walk is over normal hiking paths sure, it's good exercise.

Im not rally sure what NOT to eat but i know what TO eat. well if your hiking in the mountains i suggest trail mix, WATER, granola bars, a little chocolate or something for the top. whenever we go hiking we usually eat lunch at the top i f its a day hike so sandwiches.
