I stopped taking that statin and the hot flashes immediately stopped. Later, I was prescribed Lipitor. As with the Simvastatin, I had severe hot flashes. I was told by my doctor that this is a known, though not very common side effect of some statins. After those experiences, I was prescribed Livalo (another statin). She said this should be much less likely to cause the hot flashes. After a month on the Livalo, I have no noticeable side effects.
