Mice communicate through various noises and body language. They squeak when they are hurt or scared. They chirp to communicate where they are to each other while exploring. They shake their tails as a warning, when they are about to attack, and they nip in warning, too, telling you or other mice to stay away.
Mouse ears are also important--up means they are alert and curious, down means they are scared and/or submissive. If two mice are squabbling over dominance, one may go still and lift its paws in surrender, ears down and head back, or lay down and go still to show submissiveness. One mouse grooming another may also be a sign of dominance, or it might be just friendly attention. Mice also "hump" each other to assert their dominance--both male and female mice do this, and it's nothing to be worried about.
Mice groom when they are comfortable--if you're a holding a mouse in your hand and it sits still and starts to groom itself, this means that it trusts you, or it is easy-going and very tame. Over-grooming, though, can be a sign of nervousness. Mice also "brux" when they are very happy and content. This is a noise they make by grinding the teeth together. Bruxing also causes their eyes to "boggle," which means they move in and out very quickly.

∙ 12y agoIf you have mice (like me) then you hear them all the time. They squeak and make like a mumbling noise. It almost sounds like a cough. My mice will now and then stop and starting coughing (talking)or squeaking at each other. Most times it gets so loud they start yelling and attacking each other. Which is why I had to separate their cages. But yes, mice DO comunicate through squeaks and mumbles.

∙ 14y agoi think they can understand what your saying because i have two mice and they nod their head to say yes or no. they also squeak if they are saying yes. so just ask them a question but first you need to teach them how to nod their head to say yes or no. just nod your head and soon they will learn
