In a sense, it can. The concrete does not melt. The cement in it gives up its waters of hydration and turns to dust. At this point molten metals can pass through the dust and stone of the concrete. This results from a meltdown.

A number of meltdowns have happened, but molten core going through the concrete has not so far. There is a link attached to the Wikipedia article on nuclear meltdown.

Can nuclear power plants make nuclear weapons?

It can produce low grade plutonium that need be extracted from the used nuclear fuel through used fuel reprocessing. However, power reactors are subject to the international nuclear safeguards to prevent its misuse.

What does nuclear energy release?

It releases heat through absorption of the kinetic energy of the fragments of fission in the material of the fuel rods (talking of nuclear reactors, not weapons)

Is the nuclear generator 100 efficient explain?

No, it's not. Energy is lost through waste heat (from the reaction) and energy loss from the decay of the nuclear fuel at the heart of the reactor.

What part of the nuclear reactor is the fuel located in?

The nuclear fuel is found in the fuel rods. These fuel rods are formed into fuel bundles called fuel assemblies, and together they make up the reactor core.

What are nuclear power reactors and reprocessing plants?

In simple terms:Nuclear power reactor is an installation where nuclear fuel undergoes nuclear fission process resulting in thermal energy production. this thermal energy is transferred to reactor coolant system. Then the thermal energy converted into mechanical energy through turbines. The mechanical energy is converted to electrical energy through electric generators.Reprocessing plant is an installation where its feed (or input) is the irradiated nuclear fuel (called used fuel or spent fuel) that is discharged from the nuclear reactor. This fuel after successive mechanical and chemical processes is separated into uranium and plutonium (for reuse again) and radioactive waste to be disposed of using specific techniques according to their physical form and radioactivity level.

What is the word for the molten nuclear fuel plasma that will form in the fukushima reactors?

The solidified fuel and debris that melted in a meltdown is often called lava.

What does china syndrome mean to a nuclear reactor?

In the most severe reactor accident, the fuel will melt and, due to radioactive decay heat, will continue to be very hot. In fact, it will be hot enough to melt through the bottom of the reactor pressure vessel (several inches of steel), and possibly melt/burn through the concrete floor of the reactor building and get into the soil beneath the building. This is what is referred to as the China syndrome, the idea being that the molten mass of fuel is heading toward China on the other side of the earth as it melts through the vessel, concrete, and then soil and rock below the reactor building.

The sun and the fuel it contains?

The fuel is not a regular chemical fuel, but hydrogen, which gets converted to helium through nuclear fusion, at very high temperatures. The fuel is not a regular chemical fuel, but hydrogen, which gets converted to helium through nuclear fusion, at very high temperatures. The fuel is not a regular chemical fuel, but hydrogen, which gets converted to helium through nuclear fusion, at very high temperatures. The fuel is not a regular chemical fuel, but hydrogen, which gets converted to helium through nuclear fusion, at very high temperatures.

Is nuclear energy and nuclear fuel different?

What is a fuel rod?

A nuclear fuel rod is a tube filled with nuclear fuel. The tube part is made of material that allows neutrons to pass freely through, so the fuel can undergo reaction unhindered. The rods are put together in groups called bundles, which are attached together so they can be handled together. There is a link below to the section in an article on nuclear fuel that explains the fuel rods. Pictures are there as well.

How does a nuclear reactor eliminate heat?

Heat is eliminated through use of reactor coolant passing over the nuclear fuel in the primary coolant loops.

If uranium is not a foosil fuel then what is it?

Uranium is a radioactive element used to fuel nuclear reactors. It is a nuclear fuel.
