Musk turtles can live up to 50 years if your lucky but they normally live for around 30 - 40 years
try map turtles or yellow or red bellies I have a razor back musk and he go's perfect with my Mississippi map turtle
They can get to be about 7" (inches) long which is around 17cm.
Yes, red eared sliders and yellow bellied sliders are both subspecies of "pond slider", in the wild where their range overlaps they mate quite often producing what are called "intergrades". The particular intergrade between a yellow bellied slider and a red eared slider often has features of both, large yellow markings on the head with a red corner.
No, these turtles along with red ear sliders are the most common turtle you can get hold of. They are readily available in most reptile stores (well they seem to be the one they all sell). Other turtles such as map and musk turtles are much harder to get hold of, especially in the UK.
Depends on the species. Red eared sliders can grow to about a foot and other sliders can grow a simular size. Many painted turtles will grow about nine inches (however southern painted turtles usually stay slightly smaller). Sea turtles (which are not really available in the pet trade), most species of snapping turtles, and most species of tortoises grow many feet long. Unlike mammals, male turtles stay smaller than female turtles so they generally make better pets. The smaller the turtle the less space, time changing tanks, food, etc. it consumes. Musk turtles, male map turtles, and male painted turtles tend to be the smaller adult turtles.
Aquatic turtles need to live in water. How deep depends on the species. Turtles like painted turtles or slider turtles need water to be as deep as possible. Turtles like musk and snapping turtles need shallower water. They have to have land too, a turtle need to be able to completely dry off when ever they want to. Tortoises or box turtles need a shallow, easy to climb in, dish that is big enough for then to fit in so they can sit in it and drink when ever they want.
You can get common musk turtles from most reptile specialty shops. If they don't have one, they can probably order one for you. You can also get them online from Reptile City or The Turtle Source.
Musk and Mud turtles can be found anywhere from eastern and southern USA to Argentina.
