The defense system of a country is a good example of Public good. It has the property of non-rivalry and non-excludibility
First, you need to know what is a public good.A public good is by definition something non-rival and non-excludable.Non-roval means that somebody can have the good and you can have it at the same time.Non-excludable means nobody can deny you the access to the good. That said, we can say that National Defense is a public good if we consider it only provides deterrence from another attack. That because everybody can profit of the deterrence at the same time and because no other citizen can deny you the protection offered by the national defense.Voilà!
National defense is a public good, meaning it must be supplied to all citizens. It functions to protect all citizens within a country from threats coming in from without. It is the first and most important function granted to the national government. Without national defense a country cannot defend itself from foreign threats and would fail as a state.
It is not accurate to think of public education, national defense, and police and fire department as "free" services because they are paid for by taxes.
Well not really they are ranked 128th place in the world so their defense is not good
Social Security & Medicare; Customs & Immigration; Military (National Defense) & Coast Guard (Rescue Missions); to name a few.
Everyone is required to pay taxes to the national government. In return we get protection from the military or national defense.
