It is not common, but does happen. It is not common, but does happen.
if that is what they told you at the parts store or it's the manufacture specs then yes. and the only thing that would really change this is if you got a higher capacity oil pan or oil filter. lots of people like bigger oil filters. but as far as the oil pan that's only if you do alot of towing or plowing.
Drain the oil from your oil pan. Remove the oil pan bolts. There are 24 oil pan bolts. The oil pan will come off.
You will need to drop the oil pan to change the oil pan on a Hummer 2. The oil pan is located in inside the oil pan. You also need to first drain the oil pan of the old oil before you drop the pan.
If it has a stock, Original Equipment Manufacture, (OEM) oil pan then the pan capacity is 4 quarts. This engine requires 5 quarts with an oil and filter change, with a stock pan and stock filter. I stress, OEM! If it is not an OEM pan, then it may hold more. Be sure and not to overfill, as this will cause engine damage through cavitation.
You will need a new oil pan gasket when the oil pan gasket leaks. It is recommended that you use a new oil pan gasket every time you remove the oil pan.
