Yes it can. I believe it must be a side effect. After taking penicillin when they were young, my husband and his twin brother both started seeing hallucinations. They would see things like bugs crawling all over their bodies and in their house, when in relaity they were not there. The doctor said this was an allergic reaction to the drug
