No metal actually "turns green", although copper and possibly others develop surface layers that are green when exposed to many natural atmospheres. Copper turns green when it reacts with sulphur (sulfur) in the air, forming copper sulfide.
The grass turns green when it is exposed to sunlight.
Pennies are made, or at least coated, with Copper and that copper can oxidize and turn green. Newer pennies have an alloy metal that is supposed to reduce this chemical action.

Actually, copper is what turns skin green. I have never personally had pewter turn my skin green but everyones skin PH balance is different.

Actually, people are not born with green hair. We actually have a very limited choice of hair color at birth. For example we only have a range from black to brown to red to blonde. Though some people do dye there hair.
