Dogs have bones inside them (their skeleton) and dogs also like animal bones to chew on as part of their food. These bones are good for dogs but you should not feed a dog cooked chicken bones.

Some Animal bones splinter and can hurt the dog.

Generally beef and pork bones are ok, but no bird (chicken) bones. Because yes, they can splinter.

If you are going to feed your dog raw food, then yes, raw beef bones are an excellent part of that particular diet, as they are soft and easily chewed. Dogs can also eat raw chicken bones, which only become brittle and dangerous when they are cooked. Do not feed raw bones except as part of a raw food regimen.

Avoid feeding your dog any cooked poultry, beef, lamb or pork bones, especially ribs. These could either chip your pet's teeth, or cause serious intestinal problems, or even death, if ripped apart and swallowed. Do not feed fish bones of any kind.
