it depends on the jack you have, there is a hole on the side of your laptop with either a mic symbol next to it is colored red. if you insert the mic in there it should work. if the end of the mic is USB, you need to connect it into your USB slot. if the laptop doesn't pick up the mic, you need to go into my computer and go on devices to find it! however you laptop might not be compatible with the mic.

What year was your macbook made in? My macbook is from 2008 and there is no mic imput on it. Only Macbook pro models created after 2009 have a mic imput. You can always use a usb mic that plugs into a usb slot.
