Best Answer

Yes Western Red Cedar is a very popular 'traditional' sauna wood in the USA. Most people recognize or prefer the aromatic scent of cedar woods, which is actually toxic chemicals off-gassing in the sauna heat. Of course as with anything else, if the sauna is used in moderation the off-gassing shouldn't produce any significant health problems. 2 other popular sauna woods are White Aspen or Nordic Spruce which are lighter in color and have almost no smell. White Aspen woods are recommended by doctors for patients on a Sauna detoxification program, because of its non-allergenic wood grain.
