Because you run, you need more oxygen; because you can only fit so much oxygen into each breath and each beat of the heart, more breaths and more beats are needed. Like the other muscles of your body, the heart works more during exercise such as running, so your blood pressure goes up as a result of the increased force being applied and the higher number of times this force is applied.
