Can a bad thermostat cause your battery to go dead and ac blow hot air And what other negative effects can a bad thermostat have on your vehicle?

I've actually heard a bad thermostat can cause the evaporator core to malfunction.I've also heard of some a/c compressors will shut off if the engine temp gets to high which could be a thermostat issue. No, the thermostat has no effect on the battery or on the A/C. A thermostat either works correctly or it will stick open or stick closed. Sticking open will cause the engine to never reach full operating temperature, and as such your heater will not work properly. A thermostat stuck closed will cause the engine to overheat.

Can an automobile thermostat stick open?

Yes they can stick open or closed. An automobile thermostat is just as likely to stick open as it is to stick shut. Symptoms of a stuck open thermostat are slow to reach normal operating temperature and only warm air blowing from the heater. Symptoms of a stuck closed thermostat are engine over-heating and radiator boil-over.

How do you know if a thermostat is bad in a 1994 astro van?

Faulty thermostats can manifest themselvs in several ways. Some stick open, some stick closed and some stick in one position for a while then suddenly open or close. The ones that stick open will never allow the engine to completely warm up and you will get cold or cool air coming from the heater. The ones that stick closed will cause the engine to warm normally but then the temprature continues to climb and you can loose coolant and possibly harm the engine. The ones that stick for a while are interesting because the vehicle will run cold then turn warm quite rapidly or more likely the thermostat will stick closed and not open until the vehicle is quite warm and possibly you have started to loose coolant. In any case, the easiest way to detect a bad thermostat is to replace it. If the problem goes away, it was the thermostat. If you REALLY need to know if the thermostat is bad, remove it from the vehicle, put it in a pan of water and bring the water to a boil on the stove. Watch the thermostat. If it opens smoothly when the water gets to the designated temprature then the thermostat is ok. If the thermostat opens suddenly, fails to open or is open when you remove it from the vehicle, the thermostat has failed.

I cant get any heat in 95 grand marquis 4.6 engine thermostat change already?

Check for a heater control valve in the upper hose to the heater core, they stick all the time, then see if the air mix door is functioning properly on the heater itself.

Can your thermostat be stick?

Yes

Can a car thermostat bust in cold weather?

Generally they don't "bust". They stick open or closed usually from wear. If the thermostat sticks open the engine is slow to warm up and gives you poor heat from the heater. If the thermostat sticks closed the engine overheats quickly and can cause serious damage. The weather doesn't have any effect on the thermostat however, if the there isn't sufficient antifreeze protection and the coolant freezes the engine will overheat quickly and can cause serious damage much like a stuck closed thermostat. Generally a 50/50 mix of clean water and antifreeze will protect the system to -34 degrees F. Have the coolant tested if your not sure.

Why does a car thermostat fail?

They will get full of crud and start to stick.

Are Bradford White Water Heaters capable of being run on an electrical system or are they only powered by natural gas?

No if your heater is electric you can not use a gas heater you have to use the electric heater and it would really cause too much to change over from electric to gas so I would truly stick to what heater you have noiw

Why do i have no heat in my 1998 ford ranger pickup?

have you turned on the switch? If so here are somethings that you can check... 1. blend door actuator 2. thermostat 3. radiator fluid level and color (should be green) 4. heater core. Check those things! The blend door actuator works a flap that sends hot air from the heater core to the passenger compartment or to the defroster, it will be located under the dash on the passenger side. It works by vacuum or a small electric motor. The thermostat is located at the engine end termination of the large hose running from the radiator to the engine block. The gooseneck the hose attaches to is usually held by two bolts and the thermostat is inside this housing. The thermostat can stick and cause overheating and loss of heat in the heater. The heater core itself can leak, which in many cars will show up on the floor on the passenger side of your car. Another indication of leaks would be steam coming from the vents. It also has to be taken out from under the dash on the passenger side. It is a good idea to have your system flushed if you notice that the water in the radiator is rusty or orange colored. The water should have coolant/antifreeze in it which normally would give it a green color.

Why doesn't Heater work in my Jeep Cherokee Sport?

That depends on what it is doing. If the fan is not working, it is the motor, fuse or wiring. The most likely cause of motor not working at all is the fuse. Second case is the motor. If the fan only works on high, the resistor block is bad. This is located inside of the air venting system. There are about four wires going to this resistor block. They ocassionally burn up. Now, if the system has a fan, but no heat you have one or more of three issues. You are low on antifreeze, your heater core is blocked or your thermostat is stuck open. Check the level of antifreeze. That is the easiest and most likely. If low, fill! If the heater core is plugged you can remove both hoses from the heater core and if you are cheap, like I am, connect your garden hose to the system for a few seconds. This blows the plug out ALMOST every time! The thermostat will cause very little heat for a long time but of you run long enough you get some heat. They usually stick closed for me, but have been known to stick open. I wish you well!

How do you determine if a car thermostat needs to be replaced?

A thermostat can stick occasionally or fail altoghether so the symptoms can be different, depending on what the thermostat is doing. Sometimes they stick until the temperature goes to an extreme. When that happens, the engine can get very cold and/or very hot before the thermostat opens or closes, then suddenly the temperature will change within just a few seconds. If the thermostat is just plain stuck or stops working altoghether, the engine will either overheat or stay relatively cool. You almost need to imagine what's going on to cause the condition that you're seeing.

Will a 2003 Monte Carlo ss overheat due to a faulty thermostat?

Sure will. Thermostat will stick shut not allowing coolant to flow
