No, the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution guarantees that no person shall be deprived of life or limb (incarceration) without due process. You can only be incarcerated in a mental institution by a judge. There is one exception; most states will hold someone for 72 hours to conduct a mental evaluation of a person who has attempted to commit suicide.

Institutionalization is the act of being placed in a psychiatric hospital, which is often referred to politely as an "institution". Incarceration is the detention of a person in jail, typically as punishment for a crime. This being said, someone could be incarcerated into a psychiatric hospital, but only if they committed a crime. Otherwise, it would be described as Institutionalization, because they did not do anything wrong, they are only being sent to the institution because of their mental state.
Not if the cops were not involved before hand or while you were in the hospital.

I would say both. Really, this is the same for most jobs. Only "most" jobs because you might say that being a carpenter, painter or landscaper, ETC, would be more of a physical job and being someone like a physcologist would be more of a mental job. But being a doctor requires lots of thought, especially if you are working in a hospital or in the ER, and it also requires doing lots of things, especially if your a surgeon or helping in a surgery. I suppose if I had to choose I would say it is more of a mental job though, because being a doctor takes lots of knowledge.
It means they are being admitted for observation due to possible mental health issues.
Being committed is being placed under the care and supervision of trained doctors and nurses at a hospital either (a) voluntarily in which case the patient may choose to leave or (b) involuntarily for an indefinite amount of time. Please rephrase your second question.
