I don't know if there's a way for you to publish your manga sequel legally, but you could always write a doujinishi (fanmade manga) and publish it online, on an anime fansite or DeviantArt or something like that, which is perfectly legal. In fact, the mangaka group CLAMP (authors of the popular series Cardcaptor Sakura, xxxHolic, Chobits, and Tsubasa: Resevoir Chronicle) started out as a group of doujinishi artists.
