Yes, it can be done, but it's something that generally should not be done. It's extremely traumatic to the child.

The general suggestion from social workers is that adoptive parents should not start visitation with the child until they're already pretty much committed to the adoption, and that you should never rush into finalization, and that when going into finalization, you need to make sure that you have realistic expectations on how difficult parenting the child(ren) will be.
