No, someone with Type O blood cannot receive Type AB blood without adverse immune backlash to the donor blood. This is because the A & B refer to antigens, or proteins, on the red blood cells. Type O people have neither A nor B antigens; thus, their body, which doesn't recognize the antigens, treats the donor blood as a foreign body and attempts to eliminate it.

Here's a chart for you:

Giving Blood Type............Receiving Blood Type

O.....................................O, A, B, AB

A......................................A, AB

B......................................B, AB

AB....................................AB

The answer to your question is definitively no; however, note that there are subtypes of A, B, and AB blood types, called A plus/minus, B plus/minus, and AB plus/minus.

No, since type O patients have anti-A and anti-B, the donated A-blood would react with the patient's anti-A Type O patients can only receive type O blood but can donate to all types Type AB can receive all types, but can donate only to AB patients

Yes - when the blood groups match blood can be donated. This is because both the people with blood type A will have the same antigens and antibodies. This makes it unlikely that the blood will coagulate when mixed.

Simple answer no. O can donate to A or B but not the reverse. A and B can donate to AB but not the reverse. Neither A or B can donate to each other. It also depands on the rh factor. Negative people can donate to positive but not the reverse. O negative can be given to anyone which is why they keep calling me at the blood bank asking for donations.

no because the blood type O is universally transfusiable (to others), while putting any blood type into a type O individually would have negatory effects.

Yes. Because AB has no antibodies, it can receive blood from any type. A, B, O, or AB.

No because the person with Type A does not have any Type B blood cells, so those would clot and kill that person.

Why is it important for AB blood types to donate blood?

It's important for anyone who can donate blood to donate, but the fact is that AB is not a donor for any blood type but its own. AB can only donate to AB. AB is, however, what is referred to as a universal recipient, meaning that someone with type AB blood can receive blood from AB, A, B, and O blood types. This being the case, it wouldn't seem that a shortage of AB blood would be a problem unless there is a generalized blood shortage of all types (which there usually is, so donate if you can spare a pint!)
